The main objective of this 3-year (2012-14) research project in the Balassagyarmat Micro Region (Nógrád County, N-Hungary) was to explore the agro-ecological conditions of the micro region and to map the social and economic relations and possible conflicts. Additionally, the project aimed to identify viable long-term proposals in the field of rural development.
In 2013 the focus area of the research was expanded to the Slovak side of the river Ipoly/ Ipel, to the Veľký Krtíš District to investigate the possibilities of strengthening economic (i.e. trade of local agricultural products) and social connections of the entire bioregion.
Research was carried out in cooperation with Loránd Eötvös University (ELTE) Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, Ipoly-Táj Regional Development Association and RRA – Middle-Ipoly Regional Development Agency. Researches were supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
